Give us More to See

Coastal towns everywhere are putting in underwater art installations. Reasons ranging from memorials to environmental reasons and now to encourage ecotourism.

We are working towards getting artists with the likes of Jason deCaires Taylor who’s care for conservation is alive in every one of his pieces. Listen to his Ted Talk when you have an extra 10 minutes, you will be in awe of his approach.

The Crucifix below is the closest thing we have here in Northern Michigan to an underwater art installation but there is room for so much more. Let’s build it and let’s build it with intention!

About 800 feet offshore and under 21 feet of water lies an Italian white marble crucifix, the only known freshwater-underwater crucifix. It came to Petoskey in 1962 in a round-about way, and has become a draw for divers and visitors alike ever since

The above crucifix draws 1,000’s of divers and when the bay freezes over 1,000’s come again and walk out on the ice to view this masterpiece through the ice.
